Can Individuals Volunteer?

Can Groups (Church, Business, School, etc.) Volunteer?

General Group Volunteer Info: Construction Info and ReStore Info

  • Groups should be no larger than 15 individuals.
  • Groups should have lunch plans figured out for the lunch break of 11:30 to 12:30. (if from out of town, the site supervisor can recommend lunch eateries nearby)
  • Groups should contact Tommy Hawkins and plan to schedule no farther out than 1 month ahead.

What are the Age Restrictions?

  • At least 16 to be on Construction site or at ReStore
  • Under 18 not allowed to operate power tools or motor vehicles, work from a height of six feet or more, or work on excavation or demolition projects.
  • 18 or older are allowed to volunteer on any project.

What is the Time Commitment?

  • Only commitment is the time you want to volunteer.
  • As little as one afternoon or morning, or as much as a full day; anytime construction is happening, or everyday that the ReStore is open.

When does Habitat Build?

  • Construction schedule is Wednesday to Saturday 8:30-3:30 (weather permitting)

Do I need Construction Experience?

  • No experience is needed, we can teach you on site.
  • Skilled volunteers are always appreciated on the job site.

What to wear and bring to the Site?

  • Wear close-toed shoes (required), the sturdier the better.
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather (ReStore or the Construction Site)
  • Construction site we will email what items you might need to bring for that day's work.

What is the Volunteer Schedule?

  • Volunteer days are either Full Days 8:30 - 3:30 or half days are available
  • Arrive no later than 8:20
  • Orientation and Safety Briefing at 8:30
  • Work starts directly after Orientation
  • Lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 - Habitat does not provide lunch
  • Work starts promptly at 12:30
  • Work day ends at 3:30 after all tools and materials have been stored

How often am I required to volunteer?

  • Only required to volunteer for the time you have signed up.
  • We enjoy seeing faces more than once on the job site or in the ReStore.

What if I need to document hours?

  • Check with the organization you are documenting hours for if they have a special time sheet.
  • Keep track of your hours separately from the Habitat Sign-In sheets.
  • We will use the Habitat Sign-In sheets to varify the hours you have kept track of.

What are the Safety Guidelines at the Construction Site?

Can I smoke at the ReStore or Construction Site?

  • NO smoking is allowed while working at the ReStore or on the construction site.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Springfield is a drug-free workplace.
