What kind of community service is accepted at Habitat?

What are the Age Restrictions?

  • At least 16
  • Under 18 not allowed to operate power tools or motor vehicles, work from a height of six feet or more, or work on excavation or demolition projects.
  • At least 18 allowed to volunteer on any project.

How far in advance can I schedule volunteering?

  • No more than one month ahead of time.
  • We also allow for volunteers to call as little as one day before their volunteer day.

Where can I volunteer for Community Service?

  • You are allowed to volunteer at our ReStore (hours Mon-Sat 8:30-5:00)
  • You are allowed to volunteer in Construction (hours Wed-Sat 8:30-3:30)

What should be worn to volunteer?

  • There is no climate control so watch the weather and plan to dress for the outside weather.
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Clothing appropriate for Habitat's mission (i.e. general public schools dress codes)

How often am I required to volunteer?

  • Only required to volunteer for the time you have signed up.
  • We do require if you sign up for a time that you make sure you show up for that time. Or at least give us notification if you will be unable to come for that time.

What if I need to document hours?

  • Check with the organization you are documenting hours for if they have a special time sheet.
  • Keep track of your hours separately from the Habitat Sign-In sheets. You need to document your own hours, so that if the organization asks for verification the hours are easily identifiable in our records.
